Shooting Stars – October 2020 Half Term

We would like to inform everyone that we have been notified by a parent this morning that their child has been diagnosed with German measles. We have included some information in the newsletter for signs and symptoms however further information can be obtained from https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/rubella/

Rubella (German measles) is a rare illness that causes a spotty rash. It usually gets better in about 1 week. It can be serious if you get it when you’re pregnant and you may need to speak to your midwife.

  • The main symptom of rubella is a red or pink spotty rash.
  • The rash takes 2 to 3 weeks to appear after getting rubella.

Rubella can also cause:

  • aching fingers, wrists or knees
  • a high temperature of 38C or above
  • coughs
  • sneezing and a runny nose
  • headaches
  • a sore throat
  • sore, red eyes

Please remember that – It’s very unlikely to be rubella if you have had both doses of the MMR vaccine or had rubella before. If you are at all worried please contact your local GP surgery.

Cold weather

We are definitely moving into the Winter with the darker mornings, cold winds and rain meaning we should all start to wrap up a little warmer. Could we please ask parents to ensure that your children are wearing several layers of clothes i.e a vest or tee-shirt and a jumper to help to keep them warm. Children will need a warm coat every day, gloves and hats and where possible wellies for outdoor play with other shoes to change into for being inside.

Halloween

As Halloween falls in the half term the children will be celebrating in the week after half term. Children are invited to dress up on Tuesday 3rd November 2020. Children will not be able to wear masks or face paint. We also are unable to bring into preschool accessories that belong to the outfits like swords or cuddlies, so please leave these at home.

The children will be reading Christopher Pumpkin by Sue Hendra as a core story during the week and will be learning about pumpkins and using them to support the learning such as with maths.

You can find the story being read on youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-O74q8QuNw

Please if you haven’t already come and join us on Facebook @ shooting stars preschool and Instagram at Starsdaynurseries to see all the fun that we are having and collect regular updates.

Term times

The term ends on Friday 23rd October and we will return on Monday 2nd November 2020 as usual.

Happy Halloween everyone!
