A variety of experiences at Stars Pre-School Dogsthorpe
Nature Garden - We promote growing vegetables and herbs with the children and learn about life cycles of a plant. We also go for bug hunts in this areaas there are lots of dark places where worms, spiders and woodlice live! This provides children the opportunity to explore and investigate the world around them.
Creative Room - This is our Reggio inspired creative room. The children have access to all the resources at a suitable level for them to be independent and help themselves. We also have an "inspiration table" where a different item is placed to inspire drawing ideas e.g. flowers, fruit bowl etc. The easels are out every day to promote mark making with both chalks and whiteboard pens. This is a great opportunity to explore colours, textures and to experiment.
Mud Kitchen - In our mud kitchen the children can access the outdoor area to mix different materials together such as sand, mud, bark and make mud pies. it provides many learning experiences for all children in a natural way.
Campfire - This is where we sing songs around our pretend campfire, pretend to cook baked beans and marshmallows, explore logs, bricks and sticks. This is a great way to help build relationships by sining name songs and getting to know each other.
Caterpillar Room - Our caterpillar roomis based on physical development. We provide soft play for the childrento explore different movements such as jumping, rolling, twisting etc safely. Children are able to re-arrange the soft play to suit them and to gain confidence in climbingand balancing. Here, children are able to learn about the effects on the body after being energetic.
Construction Corner - We pretend to be builders by dressing up in hi-visability jackets, builders hats, toolboxes and build bricks, towers, houses etc. We provide books in the area to create inspiration and understanding of the area. This is a great opportunity for the children to experiment with numbers by counting the blocks, taking/adding a brick etc.
Outside Construction Area - This is where the children can get into the mud to dig, touch, build, investigate using spades, diggers etc.
Role Play - This area is very special with real clothes, shoes, jewellery for the children to dress up as real characters such as mummy, uncle, etc. There is a mirror for the to lok at themselves and admire their role play. We believe that by providing the children with real items will ensure the learning and curiosity from the children investigating through senses. this is a great opportunity for the children to build on their self esteem and self confidence by trying something new.
Writing table - This is our indoor writing table where we promote mark making usng different reources. We also place inspiration for the children to draw such as magnetic letters and numbers to copy. We sit with the children and discuss the marks they make. This gives children the opportunity to find out their dominant hand, to inspire and promote the writing of their names.
Messy Play Trays - In our creative room we have 2 messy play trays out everyday filled with something creative. Some days we have junk modelling where the children can build and connect objects together using connectors such as glue, selotape, straws, paperclips, etc. We also provide messy play with paints at the childrens height, and other messy play including custard, flour, food colouring etc.
Kitchen - This is our beautiful kitchen area with real tea, coffee, sugar and hot chocolate!! We also provide ingredients for children to explore and develop knowledge on including pasta, vegetables and with real cutlery and saucepans for a "real life" experience. It is very homely with a dog basket qnd hoover to capture a real life home.
